Marie's Bladder Relief Tea Recipe
If you experience bladder pain, try Marie's Bladder Relief Tea to help flush the bladder and relieve pain. If you live with Interstitial Cystitis, which is bladder pain with an unknown cause, this tea may help flush your bladder and reduce pain caused by an irritated bladder lining. Of course, anytime you have bladder pain, you should be checked out by a doctor for a diagnosis.
Place one teaspoon of each of the herbs below in a small jar. By increasing each herb's amount equally, you can make a larger batch.
- Holy basil (Tulsi)
- Oregano
- Lemon Balm
- Parsley
- Fennel
- Catnip
Use one heaping teaspoon per 6-8 ounces of near-boiling water (right before boiling). Steep for 5-10 minutes and sip. You can add raw honey for sweetness. Some people say that honey bothers their bladder, which may be due to store-bought honey containing corn syrup. Ensure the honey you use is labeled as raw or organic.
I make a pot of this tea and warm it up as needed. Using the microwave is fine. Just don't overheat, or it will lose some of its medicinal qualities. You might place your pot on a tea warmer instead.
You can drink up to 4 cups daily for three consecutive days, along with plenty of water to help flush your kidneys and bladder.

Ingredients
- 2 parts Marshmallow Root (cooling, coats the bladder and urethra)
- 1 part Slippery Elm bark (anti-inflammatory, soothing to mucous membranes)
- 1 part Chamomile flowers (gentle antispasmodic, reduces irritation and anxiety)
- ½ part Calendula petals (promotes tissue healing)
- Optional: ½ part Corn silk or Plantain leaf (helps reduce urgency and frequency)
Mix your dry herbs and store them in an airtight glass jar. Avoid boiling or using hot water, as heat can destroy the mucilaginous (gel-like) compounds that protect and coat the bladder. Instead, create a cold infusion, which is best for Interstitial Cystitis.
To make one day’s supply:
- Add 2 tablespoons of the herbal blend to a quart (32 oz) of room-temperature or cool, filtered water.
- Cover and let it steep 4–8 hours (or overnight) at room temp.
- Strain through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Sip throughout the day, especially when symptoms flare.
Optional add-ins for flavor and added benefit:
- A few rose petals (calming and slightly sweet)
- A drop of stevia leaf or raw honey (if tolerated).
- A few lemon balm leaves can help to relieve bladder tension and anxiety (avoid if citrus-sensitive).
Drink 1–3 cups daily as tolerated. During flares, small, frequent sips are more soothing than large amounts at once. You can rotate with aloe vera juice (only the inner fillet) or coconut water for added hydration.
