The Herpes Witch Lysine Ointment Recipe
L-lysine is an amino acid that helps maintain the body's pH balance. The Herpes Witch L-Lysine Ointment recipe is suitable for applying to oral and genital herpes blisters. You can also apply the ointment to lesions caused by herpes viruses (such as cold sores, genital herpes, and Shingles) to help soothe and heal painful blistering. When used at the first sign of an outbreak, it may prevent blistering altogether.
This recipe makes approximately 3 cups (24 ounces). You can always cut the recipe to make less. You'll need the following ingredients.
- L-lysine powder
- Virgin coconut oil (no scent or taste)
- Beeswax (pellets are easier to measure than blocks)
What You'll Need
You'll need a double boiler. If you don't have one, that's okay. You can use a medium-sized cooking pot filled with 1-2 inches of water and a large dry glass measuring cup. Place the measuring cup in the water inside the pot. No measuring cup? Just use the pot, but make sure it's dry. You don't want water getting into your recipe. You'll also need a mixer. No mixer? Use a fork. Using a fork, as I do, might make your ointment look a little gritty, but that's okay. It still works. To attain a powder, you'll need a machine that grinds items (such as nuts, seeds, etc.) into a fine powder. I use this one.
Note: Please wear a face mask (such as a scarf) before adding the lysine powder to the melted mixture. Inhaling any powder can be harmful.
Melt the 1/4 cup of beeswax and the 1 1/3 cups (one and one third) of coconut oil over medium heat until they are thoroughly melted. Don't walk away from the stove. You want to make sure water doesn't splash into it or that it doesn't get too hot. You also want to remove it from the heat as soon as the ingredients have melted. It can help to gently stir the beeswax occasionally to encourage it to melt more quickly. Once it's melted, it needs to be removed from the heat immediately.
Add 1-1/2 cups of lysine powder to the melted oil and wax. Stir gently and fold it all in until it is thoroughly moistened. You can add a few drops of vitamin E oil for extra healing power and preservation. Then, whip the mixture with a mixer or a fork until you achieve a creamy consistency.
Immediately scrape out the ointment into a lidded glass or ceramic jar. A mason jar will do. Label your jars with the product's name, ingredients, and date.
A Clean-Up Tip
Beeswax can be a challenge to clean up. Use a napkin or paper towel to wipe out your equipment before washing.
How to Make Lemon Balm & L-Lysine Ointment
You can add lemon balm essential oil to lysine ointment at any time. Lemon balm, also known as melissa, targets the herpes virus explicitly.
Add 18 drops of essential oils to every ounce (2 tablespoons) of ointment to create a 3% solution. The recipe above yields approximately 24 ounces, so you can add 482 drops (18 drops x 24 ounces = 432) to the entire batch for a 3% dilution. Four hundred eighty-two drops may seem like a lot, but 100 drops are roughly one teaspoon. If you don't have that quantity of essential oil on hand, you can make a smaller batch of ointment (divide the recipe in half) or separate an ounce or two of ointment and add essential oils only to that jar. You can also reduce the percentage of essential oils used (see Measuring & Dosing Correctly).
Lemon balm essential oil is expensive. You can replace it with lemon or ravensara (not reventsara) essential oils to target the herpes virus. Clove and lavender essential oils are effective for pain relief, while tea tree and oregano essential oils are beneficial for fungal infections.
Remember, the lysine oxide ointment will work independently to help heal lesions. You don't have to add essential oils to it unless you want to. Once you've added the essential oils, whip the ointment again to ensure everything is blended well. I suggest using a chopstick or a spoon handle to mix small jars.
Note: While there are no adverse side effects, THW L-Lysine Ointment recipe is intended for individuals 18 years of age or older. Be sure to perform a patch test before using.
Directions for Use
L-lysine, when applied topically, is entirely safe. No adverse reactions to lysine ointment have been reported. A little goes a long way in protecting and healing the skin, so apply it sparingly and gently smooth it around the affected area to feel better quickly. When using THW L-Lysine Ointment without essential oils, you can apply the ointment more frequently (3-6 times daily) to soothe and heal skin issues, such as rashes and herpes lesions. Just remember not to gob it on. If you add essential oils, limit their use to 3-4 times daily to avoid becoming sensitive to them. Apply only a very thin layer. Applying a thicker layer isn't beneficial.
Storing
Storing your THW Lysine Ointment away from heat and light will help it last six months or longer.
