THW Truly Delicious Turmeric Tea
I created this tea recipe when I grew tired of foul-tasting turmeric beverages. It's safe to drink daily in the long term to help reduce inflammation. This recipe makes 1-2 servings.
You'll need a small saucepan, a cup, a fork, or a whisk, and the following ingredients.
- 1 – 1 ½ cups milk (or your favorite milk substitute, such as almond or oat milk)
- ½ - 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1 pinch of black pepper (necessary to absorb the turmeric, but only a pinch)
- 1 pinch of cinnamon
- 1 pinch of ginger (optional)
- ½ - 1 teaspoon coconut oil (or another healthy fat)
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- raw honey to taste
Combine all ingredients, EXCEPT FOR RAW HONEY, in a medium pan and bring them to the point of steaming while stirring. Don't boil. Sweeten with raw honey just before drinking. Never add honey along with the ingredients in the pan, as it dramatically reduces its medicinal benefits.
To make a frothy beverage, use a wire whisk or a small electric mixer while stirring. For curb appeal, sprinkle a bit of cinnamon (or even nutmeg) on top. Cinnamon, although slightly inflammatory, also helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Sip your tea. Don't gulp. The spices in this brew can warm you up too quickly if you drink it too fast. Then again, that might be the perfect "cure" when it's cold outside!
Note: Turmeric is generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. It's perfectly fine to consume if you have no gallbladder. However, you may want to avoid it if you have gallbladder problems. I've read it may cause spasms.
