The Tarot Temperance Traditional Meanings

You're either keeping things in the grey (middle, balance), trying not to go overboard, are peace-seeking, and seeking temperance in all things or, when reversed, being an absolute rogue, a libertine of the worst sort,  having no moderation whatsoever, parading through life without control or conscience (as if impulsiveness were a worthy goal in itself).

Refusing to compromise, show restraint, or maintain equilibrium in your actions is causing problems. It would be in your best interest to avoid extremes or an all-or-nothing attitude. Show moderation.

The Tarot Temperance Biblical Meanings

Throughout your life, you'll be engaged in many roles, and balancing aspects of your personality as you play these roles, and becoming a whole person is the idea behind the Tarot Temperance card. However, it's not just about focusing on the parts you love about yourself. It's about facing aspects you don't care for (the alcoholic, over-eater, gambler, drug addict, sexaholic, shopaholic) and becoming moderate in all things. The best help for this is to realize that good can come from evil by allowing God's will to become your own. Additionally, in later card versions, the image of the Archangel Michael (an angel of protection) has been included.

Keywords: Balance, moderation, self-control, equilibrium, polarity, restraint, and caution, or rash impulse

Galatians 5:22-23 – Fruit of the Spirit includes self-control.

The Tarot Temperance in Health Readings

In my Taroscendence consultations, when this card appears in a wellness context, I explore nervous system support, stress reduction, natural remedies, and lifestyle adjustments that help your body feel safer and more regulated. Tarot health meanings aren't provided here because of the possibility of using a remedy that's not in your best interest. If you would like a healthy nudge in the right direction, you are welcome to request a consult from me.

Tarot Meditation

Are there any areas of your life that are out of balance? What can you do to seek equilibrium or harmony? Are your relationships supportive and lifting or draining?

Food Remedies

Cholerics tend to do very well on vegetarian diets. Ordinary table salt and salty foods, aged cheeses, vinegar and alcohol, high-fat and fried foods, excessive red meat, highly sour foods, fermented foods, and very hot spices will bother the Choleric temperament.
