The Herpes Witch Black Witch Salt Recipe
Black Witch Salt, also known as Witches' Salt or Sal Negro, is a potent protective blend used in folk magic, witchcraft, and hoodoo. Traditionally, it is a mixture of salt, ashes, and or other blackening agents, such as pepper or coal. It's believed to absorb and repel negative energies, curses, and ill wishes.
History & Origins
Black Salt has been used for centuries in European and African diasporic traditions. Black represents protection, banishment, and the void, while salt is a purifier and protector in many cultures. In Southern Hoodoo practices, it's often used to protect the home, banish enemies, and remove harmful spiritual influences. In modern witchcraft, Black Salt is a staple for protection spells, boundary setting, and banishment rituals.

The THW Black Witch Salt Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 parts sea salt or kosher salt (for purification and protection)
- 1 part fine ash from a ritual fire, incense, or burned herbs (for banishing)
You can also add ground black pepper (to ward off negativity), activated charcoal (for deep absorption of negativity), or crushed black tourmaline or obsidian (for stone protection). You can add whichever crystals you like, according to your intention. I sometimes add Tiger's Eye, for example. For the metaphysical powers of crystal, see Stones & Crystals under HSV Witchery.
Instructions
- Purify Your Space: Light incense or a candle for a sense of focus.
- Blend Ingredients: In a mortar or bowl, mix the salt with ashes and any optional ingredients with your pestle.
- Charge the Salt: While mixing, speak your intention (e.g., "Only protection remains, all harm is banished.").
- Label & Store: Label your salt with its name and date (you wouldn't want to confuse it with culinary black salt) and store it in an airtight jar, away from sunlight.
Ways to Use The Herpes Witch Black Witch Salt Recipe
- Home Protection: Sprinkle across thresholds, windowsills, or property lines. Or, hang some above doors and windows.
- Banishing Rituals: Circle a candle with it during creative rituals.
- Absorbing Negativity: Place a small dish in a room to draw in harmful energy, then dispose of it away from your home.
- Personal Boundaries: Carry in a small pouch or charm bag.
- Ritual Circle Casting: Use it to define a sacred space within a protective circle.
Note: When you're done using your Black Witch Salt, always dispose of it far from your home or bury it in the ground at the far edges of your property where absorbed energies can be released without causing you harm. Better yet, bury it in an area where people don't often frequent.
